All of our research involves the development of new chiral stationary phase through modifying the commercially available chiral selector that are cheap such as antibiotics thiostrepton, rifamycin SV and the modification of mobile phase composition for enhancing the HPLC resolution of enantiomers. The results have been applied to the analysis of optical impurity of amino acids in the fermented food, artificial sweeteners and biological fluids such as urine and blood as functions of temperature, pH and concentration of enzyme, and to the enantiomeric enrichment of optically active pharmaceutical medicine such as b -blockers via solid-state extraction in large scale.
Our experimental and theoretical modeling and calculating efforts are aimed at better understanding the recognition site for LC chiral selector. Computer-aided modeling is used to re-generate the 3-D structure of immobilized molecule in search of its active site responsible for the chiral resolution based on the interaction calculations. We also apply this technique to aid the design of new chiral selectors or modify existing but cheap chiral molecules to be multimodal after their immobilization to the surface of silica gel for resolving different classes of optically active compounds via LC approach. These specially designed and modified chiral selectors, on the other hand, can be used as the solid phase in the solid-state extraction for large-scale enantiomeric enrichment or as the coating material for capillary tube used in electrophoresis and GC.
