History
National Chiayi University was established on February 1, 1989. It is a comprehensive university integrating the National Chiayi Normal College and the National Chiayi Institute of Technology. It consists of four campuses: Minxiong Campus, Lantan Campus, and Lin Tan Campus. Sen Campus, and Minsheng Campus. So far, there are six colleges, 36 departments and 38 research institutes.
This department is located in the Creative Building of Minxiong Campus and was established in August 1989. It is a new department established when "Chiayi Normal College" and "Chiayi Institute of Technology" merged into "National Chiayi University" and is affiliated with the College of Humanities and Arts. At the beginning of its establishment, it first recruited undergraduate students. The master's degree class was established in the 1990s of the Republic of China, and the advanced bachelor's degree class was established in the 102nd year of the Republic of China. We are currently planning a doctoral program in "Applied Linguistics", which will enable us to establish a complete applied language and English education research system.
In this department, there are six professors: Professor Shen Tianzheng, the first department head, Professor Chen Shujiao, the second department head, Professor Su Fuxing, the third department head, Wu Junxiong, the fourth associate professor, Yan Yuyun, the fifth associate professor, and Zhang Fangqi, the sixth department director. Under the careful planning and leadership of associate professors and associate professors, the department has laid a good foundation. The current department chair is Associate Professor Gong Shuping, who continues the original planning structure, strives to improve the teaching quality and academic research environment of the Department of Foreign Languages, and provides English majors and teaching-related services to the local community.
The undergraduate section of this department is divided into two groups: "Applied Foreign Language Group" and "English Teaching Group". Starting from the 1989 academic year, enrollment began, with each group enrolling one class. The master's program was established in the 1993 academic year and is divided into "Applied Linguistics Group" and "English Teaching Group". At present, the department recruits 110 undergraduate students every year, with more than 50 students each in the "Applied Foreign Language Group" and the "English Teaching Group"; in addition, 45 students are recruited in the first class of the bachelor's degree class in the 102-104 academic year; and 8 general students in the master's class. name. There are about five hundred students in total. So far, this department has a total of sixteen undergraduate graduates. Some students continue their studies, while others are teaching or doing internships in primary and secondary schools in various countries.
