In recent years, National Chiayi University has cooperated with international partner schools to promote cross-national dual degree programs. To date, 14 students have earned dual degrees, and 9 students are currently enrolled in the program. Dr. Chwen Sheu, Vice Dean of Kansas State University (KSU), noted that the university has signed dual master’s degree agreements with NCYU’s departments of Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Technology Management, Marketing and Tourism Management, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science and Information Engineering, with the Department of Banking and Finance still in the process of finalizing its agreement. He praised NCYU’s commitment to and achievements in promoting the dual degree program.
According to NCYU President Han-Chien Lin, in an effort to facilitate the university’s internationalization, NCYU has been expanding its recruitment of international students, and initiated a "one international feature for each college and department" approach. Through measures such as dual degrees, student exchanges, overseas internships, and cultural visits, the university aims to position NCYU as a hub for global connection. With 124 partner schools worldwide, NCYU has signed dual degree agreements with institutions such as Youngstown State University, KSU’s College of Business Administration, Stockton University’s School of Business in the U.S., Onomichi City University in Japan, University of Brawijaya in Indonesia, and Maejo University in Thailand. Each year, NCYU offers scholarships ranging from NT$50,000 to NT$300,000 for outstanding students to study abroad. Since 2021, 84 students have been recommended for overseas studies and internships. The program aims to cultivate professionals with a global perspective and practical experience.
Dr. Chwen Sheu, Vice Dean of the College of Business Administration at KSU, emphasized that students pursuing dual degrees at the university are exposed to the latest trends in their professional fields. By participating in workshops, they can enhance their thesis writing and presentation skills, thus improving their negotiation, communication, and leadership abilities. To bridge the gap between professional knowledge and practice, KSU has organized a corporate advisory committee, inviting CEOs and senior executives from various U.S. industries to provide curriculum guidance. By participating in committee’s meetings and group discussions, students engage directly with CEOs, which helps expand their professional knowledge and international outlook. Stressing the importance of extracurricular soft skills, Vice Dean Sheu encouraged students to undertake practical projects to develop their communication, problem-solving, and project management skills. Recognizing that life and cultural experiences are crucial, he pointed out that the multicultural environment in the U.S. offers opportunities for global networking.
An NCYU alumnus
who holds a dual master’s degree in business administration from both NCYU and
KSU expressed that participating in the dual degree program was a unique
experience that broadened their horizons and provided a more diverse and
enriching educational environment as well as exposure to international
cultures. A current NCYU graduate student enrolled in the dual degree program
at KSU shared that participating in the corporate advisory committee meeting
offered fresh insights and perspectives, expanded their professional network,
and paved the way for potential collaboration opportunities in the future.
Cross-cultural exchanges not only broadened their horizons but also reshaped
their attitudes and perspectives on life. They strongly encourage fellow
students to engage in study and exchange programs at partner schools abroad.
