This department was formerly known as the Department of Animal
Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, National Chiayi Institute of Agriculture.
After restructuring and renaming, it was restructured into a four-year
department of veterinary medicine in July 1999, recruiting high school
graduates and studies for 5 years.
In 2000, the National Chiayi Institute of Technology and the
National Chiayi Normal College merged to form the "National Chiayi
University".
In 2004, the department established a master program, which
awarded a master's degree in veterinary medicine upon graduation. Furthermore,
the master graduate institute of clinical veterinary medicine was established
in 2014.
