Introduction to the College of Agriculture
National Chiayi University has seven colleges and the College of Agriculture is one of them. This college has eight departments, two master programs and one Ph.D. program. The college also has one in-service master program and one professional bachelor program¬¬¬¬¬¬. At present, this college has 84 full-time faculty members which all have advanced degrees and expertize in their major fields. These faculties make the college a strong professional group and have outstanding research capacities both in theory and in practice. They are filled with strong ambition in their research and expertise so they often work as a team with related professional groups in and out of the university. They work with the government and public organizations and conduct research projects. This college now has about two thousand and one hundred students in total in bachelor, master and Ph.D. degree programs.The strategic objectives of this college are as follows:
1. To educate professionals of modern agricultural technology and to upgrade equipment in agricultural biotechnology for the purposes of teaching and research.
2. To educate students having good technological and humanistic qualities by strengthening their basic and practical training in combination with the local resources and requirements. Students are encouraged to present their achievements in international conferences.
3. Teacher training program: recruiting professional faculty with a doctoral degree to ensure a better quality of teaching as well as research.
4. To establish a research evaluation and awarding system to uplift research quality and quantity.
5. The academic level of the college is promoted by organizing international agriculture cooperation, devoting to industry-academia cooperation and inviting prestigious international researchers to join national or international conferences in agriculture to improve academic interactions.
6. The faculty members positively perform services such as education, assistance, consulting, and identification. The college is also devoted to enhancing the life quality by collaboration, joint research, product development, and diagnosis of plant pathogens and pests.
7. The college has continued the student exchange programs, arranged practical exercises and industry internships in Vietnam or Indonesia and received French exchange students.
8. The college provides a professional Bachelor Program of Farm Management to promote the lifelong learning of farmers and participate in community services. In order to develop professional young farmers, the Center of Agricultural Extension and the Horticultural Technology Center continue to provide professional training, alongside technology application training. The college also offers advice and support to various research projects in the Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan areas.
9. To enhance the functions of the Horticultural Technology Center including strengthening the existing educational programs, assisting the modernization of related businesses by involving them in educational-industrial cooperation and incubation projects, establishing the Center of Orchid Gene Transplantation and Manufacture. The primary goal is to develop the Center of Orchid Incubation and Development.
